Every cycle spent maintaining and supporting the old Xbox 360 services is time and energy not spent on the future of Halo. Digital sales have slowed considerably, and physical sales of these older Xbox 360 games have already stopped in 2018. As these games age and better modern replacements for many of them come on the market, fewer and fewer people are spending time on the original traditional games. But as in any business, our teams must constantly weigh needs against available resources (time, staff, expertise, etc.) and prioritize the areas and opportunities that will have the greatest impact.
That doesn’t mean we don’t care about everyone who plays Halo – we certainly do. Meanwhile, monthly usage of these older Xbox 360 gaming services continues to decline, creating an even greater mismatch between the time and effort spent on maintenance and the net effect on the Halo community as a whole. Maintaining these old services now requires a lot of time and resources, which has a direct impact on the studio’s ability to support current and future projects like Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Halo Infinite. Today we are combining future work and priorities with ongoing maintenance of the old Halo for Xbox 360 services. The future looks bright for Halo fans, and we’re very excited about the possibilities. Whether it’s major updates and improvements for MCC, the transition to PC, or the future of the Halo Infinite franchise, we’re working hard to create a great experience for years to come.

The games in question are the following:Īll games except Halo Wars and Spartan Assault are included in Halo : The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Steam with separate networking and multiplayer from the older Xbox 360 versions. On the same day as the announcement, all seven games were pulled from sale, along with the digital version of the original Xbox version of Halo: Combat Evolved. December 2020 343 Industries announced plans to launch online services for all seven versions of Halo on the Xbox 360 no earlier than a year from now, on the 18th. The game takes place in the year 2552, between the events of “Halo 2” and “Halo 3.” It is the third game in the “Halo” series, and it draws inspiration from “”, an expansion to “Halo 2”. It was released for the Xbox 360 video game console on September 22nd, 2009. “Halo 3: ODST” is a first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie Studios.
Each ODST team is equipped with a specialized suit of reactive armor that allows them to survive a fall at terminal velocity (200 miles per hour), a tactical visor with a heads-up display, a flashlight, night vision, and thermal imaging, a flashbang grenade launcher, and a M90A2 Sniper Rifle. ODSTs, or Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, are human soldiers trained to work in teams of four. Most Halo games feature Master Chief, a super-soldier that can run, jump, drive vehicles, fly aircraft, swim underwater, and generally do everything a normal soldier can do, but better. Halo fans are eagerly anticipating this year’s release of Halo 3: ODST. The game takes place during the Covenant occupation of New Mombasa, in the year 2552. It includes a new, more open style of gameplay. The game features a new style of gameplay for the Halo series. The game places emphasis on the human side of the Halo universe.
